there is a sound coming from the inside of my PC, it is a low, but very audible sound that i can hear over my 6 120mm fans from 4 feet away.

i've stopped all the fans in my computer and i still hear it, what could it be?

my mb is new and i've only used it for 1 month. i've stuck my entire head into the computer already as close as i can and i still can't determine the sound. if it is a capacitor squealing, how can i tell?

the sound comes only when i'm within windows though, i dont hear it when i'm in the bios, not in the booting process of loading windows. i hear it at idle..

what can be causing this?

my UD3R has been chirping every 1 second under idle (no chirp under load, no in bios, no in windows booting up/windows login)

i've been told by a few in XS that this is a common issue w/ this board, do you guys have boards that chirp also? the sound can be heard over 6 120mm fans @ 1500rpm from 4 feet away...

yea, why?

i dont think this issue is case related, i've stopped every fan in the case while idling and the noise still came...

can it be a grounding issue?

Well.. I try to log on as often as possible..

Reason why I asked if you had the HAF case was I have one, and have had annoying 'whirrling' noise issue. I tried to hunt down the source, and it turned out to be the front panel bezel (meshed plastic). And the origin of noise was HDD vibration.

Try holding and giving a little bit of pressure on side panels, or put your palm on the meshed front panel bays with gentle pressure. See if that removes or reduces the noise.

If that's the case, then you have a few things you can do.

1. Install something heavy in one of available 5.25" bays. Preferably somewhere in the middle.
2. Install something like this inside the case. (where 5.25" bays are)
3. Make sure your HDDs are installed tight.
4. It's a good idea to get rubber padding for the feet of the case.

etc..

Do you have a fan controller? That's another possible source of electrical squeal.

Try using something like a cardboard tube off a paper towel roll or gift wrap roll (or if you're extreme a stethoscope) to isolate where the sound is coming from. Until you know exactly what's making the noise you're just spinning your wheels. You may also try to unplug one fan at a time to see if it's a single fan issue.
