Low AvP2 preformance. Which piece of hardware is holding me back?

See my sig for details. I'm averaging 25-40FPS in high detail mode. In 800X600X32. This is just plain sad. I thought aliens vs predator 2 would run good on my system. It's new and all.. not more than a week old. Can anyone tell me which piece of hardware is causing sickeningly low framerates?

Running DirectX 8.1, 7191 drivers. Thinking of switching to 7206.

perhaps that has something to do with your problems..... just maybe.....

First of all, i'm not even going over 60FPS in normal conditions so that's not an issue. Second of all, my barracuda isn't even in use when playing the game. I doubt harddrives have an effect on game preformance. For the books i'm using Win98. Thanks anyways!

I would venture to say that it could be the PC600 Rambus memory you have. Either that or the ATI drivers aren't working well with AvP2, I have no idea how the radeon performs in that game.

How do you turn of the FPS counter? I could see how many FPS my system gets to let you know if what your seeing is normal or not.

Well seeing how most games are installed almost entirely on the hard drive, and AvP2 being no exception, that could very well be your problem. What in the world would make you say that it wouldn't?

First of all, a P4 isn't exactly an extreme performance machine. It's only when it's scaled up to the ranges of 1.9 and above Ghz that it really begins to shine anyway. Secondly, a P4's performanced depends incredibly on the amount of memory bandwidth it has, at full detail, I would guess it is the PC600 memory that's holding you back. Do you have 2 memory modules in both of the dual channel slots? If not, you cut your bandwidth down by half of what it should be.

Allright people, let me explain

There is no swapping. When i'm actually in a level the harddrive isn't a preformance issue.

FPS counter can be obtained at www.fraps.com. Install, enable, run. Simple. 🙂 Hardboiled, if you could, please do.

I'm trying to get PC800 but it's not easy over here... when PC 600 is already rare.

I believe at 1.7GHZ a P4 with 256MB of PC600 memory, it would average *atleast* 40FPS, 30 seems like a Duron800+Geforce2MX kinda level.

Max payne runs at an average of around 45FPS, why would this game run at around 30? Is max payne less demanding (By almost 50%) than AvP2? This has me stumped...

Excuse me, I'mGod2U, but I believe that a P4 system wouldn't boot properly if it wasn't in dual channel operation mode. Am I right? And I'm seriously doubting PC600 could be responsible for such horrendous preformance.

I'm not sure, I guess it would depend on the motherboard, but I think I've heard about P4 boards who would take just 1 Rambus module and cut bandwidth down to half of what it should be.

Dont read into it too much. Its not your system, its the damn lithtech engine. It may look p[retty but I swear its the absolute worst performing engine in the world. I dont think theres a CPU or video card on this earth that can hold 60fps in AVP or NOLF. As soon as a model comes on the screen it drops like mad.

Just crappy programming, thats all.

I have a 1.13 Ghz with a AK31A DDR.

I have my Geforce3 Ti200 setup for QuinCunx. And maxed all the settings out at 1024X768. Runs very smooth. 50FPS+
