Hi everyone, here's my rig:

xp2100+ t-bred
load temps at 38C w/ slk800
asus a7n8x w/ latest nvidia chipset drivers and latest bios
2x256 pc2700 samsung
ati radeon 9700 pro w/ 3.1 catalyst
maxtor 120gb hd
winxp sp1
directx 8.1

3dmark is build 330 at default settings, catalyst drivers set to "performance"
with AA and AS set to "application preference." radeon is NOT overclocked.

at default xp2100+ speed (13x133) the score seems normal at ~ 13100.

but when i overclock the cpu to xp2700+ (13x166) the score only gets ~ 13995

this score seems really low to me considering these guys:

here

and these guys:

here

get over 14970 with the same clock speed, motherboard, and video card.

i did a format and clean install of winxp when installing the radeon.

why am i down almost 1000 points?????

thanks for your help!

A few thinga could be lowering you score, or raising theirs. They could include:
-Ram speed, and timings
-Registry settings/tweaks for the 9700
-Other progs running in the background

None of these are definate, and there could be others, but those are some likely possibilities.

400-500 points difference between cas2-2-2-6 and cas2.5-3-3-6.
Up to 1000 points in optimizing operating system. Try Tweaktown.com operating system optimization guides. They work.

I had some Samsung pc2700 that would run at cas2-3-3-6. It had the DTM chips. If yours has the CTL's it will run at cas2-2-2-6. I'm not sure about the DTL's.

I can tell you that in my experience if you have anything related to instant messenger running while doing 3D mark, it'll decrease your score like crazy. I think it has something to do with the catalyst 3.1 drivers, because it didn't do that with my old drivers. Anyway, my FPS would go down from nearly 400 on the Dragothic benchmark to about 150 during some parts if I was running AIM. Make sure you turn that off, and EVERY program running on your taskbar for that matter!

stock XP2100 with a score of 13K in 3dmark2001, thats not bad. My 1.8ghz cpu only gives me 12.5K with sofmodded 9500. Must be my PC2100:).

this might help anyone else that's been having problems with their 3dmark2001 score.

the ram timings in the bios were set to CL3 by default on my a7n8x.

i lowered it to CL2.5 and just like that i got 15,400 3dmarks.

too bad my ram wont run CL2. damn mushkin basic!

Lowered to 2.5? What were you running it at before?

Ha Ha, guess you miss stuff when you read to fast. Glad you set it at 2.5, as that is optimal for DDR. Your score would go up a little with CL2, but 2.5 should be fine.
