Yeah, I know, another one of these threads.. :) but I am a little concerned with my new build. 3dmark06 scores seems pretty low to me.

Evga GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB
Phenom II X4 940 3ghz
4 Gig DDR2 PC 8500
Windows XP

Everything at stock. default test settings - 1280x1024. no aa or af.

Do these results look low?

3DMark Score 15341 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 6227
SM 3.0 Score 6816
CPU Score 4597

it's not low, it's a reasonable score. People with a GTX 260 will tell you

@ stock settings he'll get mid 15k to mid 16k so his score is about average

remember that those high scores where achieved with high cpu clocks which can influence a great deal in the final score

3DMark06 doesnt seem to like AMD processors. Try overclocking that X4 940 and see how much that helps.

And remember, 3DMark Score =! Game Performance

with the processor at 3.6-3.8ghz you should be reaching 17-18k

score seems inline with stock settings

3DMar06 is so CPU limited, that no matter which videocard you put in, the score will not increase linearly like it would do on Vantage. With my single core Pentium M at 2.70GHz and an overclocked HIS HD 3850 512MB AGP I could reach almost 10K in 3DMark06, and with my current system which is much more powerful, I score 17,316.

Yeah, that's what jumped out at me was my old setup (AMD 3500@2.2ghz, Agp X800 XT, 1 Gig Ram) scored around 12k. I was expecting more than a 3000 point jump on my new system.

anyway, I'll give Vantage a try next.

thanks

12K? On 3DMark06? For that rig? You must be dreaming. On my 3.2Ghz C2D dual-core, and with a HD4850, I only get 11K. No way you are getting 12K with an older X800 and a single-core CPU.

You must be thinking of an older 3DMark.

doh, ok I just double checked and you are right. the 12k was for 3DMark2003

now that I think about it, I think I did start to run 06 on my older pc, but stopped when it started crying :)

Anyway, I feel better now. Just finished playing some HL2 (I know it's not the newest greatest game) but it played amazing at 1920x1080 and everything on high with 4xaa 8xaf. Now it's time to get some new games!
