Stopped by the Lincoln MKZ at the auto show here in Tampa back in December and gave them my name, was in the market for myself.

Today they send a sweet customized Fisher Space Pen and a certificate for a free pair of Maui Jim sunglasses for coming in for a test drive ($200-300) value. My wife may be looking soon so ill stop by this weekend.

Thanks Lincoln!!

Forget about marketing and the BS gifts. I think Lincoln/Ford are doing an amazing job at making cars!!!

My parents lease an MKX, their experience has been mediocre at best. Their customer service is on par with ikea when it comes to luxury - all veneer and no substance.

e.g.
One of their new "bespoke experience" is instead of you dropping off your old lease at the dealer and getting a new car, you get the new car dropped at your house and they'll take the old away. Clever idea I guess, but here's what happens in reality: the service is outsourced to some company outside of the dealership, so

a) you get a 4 hour window of when they'll show up
b) you cannot make changes to the appointment less than x days before hand.

My parents were fucking livid at this ordel when they had to change the appointment due something that came up. Instead of just swinging by the dealer on their schedule, they now had to deal with what's essentially cable guy appointment.

The cars are just ok, cheap interior materials (still, especially the leather) and goofy design; just trying too hard to bring in 50s lincoln DNA that doesn't connect with anyone at all.

In summary you cannot build a brand on mediocre product and then trying to fix it with marketing bullshit.

I am a Ford guy and always have been. I've bought new Ford products in the past. Right now I own a Lincoln LS, Lincoln Aviator, Ford SVT Mustang Cobra, Ford Crown Victoria and a Mercury Montego AWD Premier. I am largely happy with my Fords.

That said - I simply can't understand Ford's direction for Lincoln after 2006 to now. I have no desire to buy another one and when I was shopping for a new large sedan (I just purchased a 2012 Chrysler 300) Lincoln wasn't even in the running (although the Taurus was).

I just don't understand who they are trying to market to and their styling is just... weird. It's not retro, it's not modern. It's... almost gaudy. I take that back. It is gaudy.

Not to mention, no rear wheel drive (sans Navigator). Honestly, the only company this works for is Acura but typically a Merc or BMW or... Lincoln driver isn't shopping Acura. No V8s and no RWD and they want people to buy these over a Merc or my new 300? No.

Acuras are pretty ugly lately too. Not sure who is buying them but I didn't even give them a look.

We purchased a lincoln mkx in the fall of 2011, and we got the certificate too. I'll have to stop by the lincoln dealer and go for a ride. Bad thing is I had just purchased a pair for the wife, although there's another pair she wanted that was 300+.

I didn't get the pen though.

Ford is pushing the Lincoln brand hard right now. They are trying to make the irrelevant relevant.

The really sad part is that they're pushing the marketing, instead of focusing on the product. Lipstick on a pig approach generally doesn't work.

I bought a Lincoln MKZ Hybrid 6 months ago. No sunglasses. No pen. Not even a pencil. :'(

Spoke too soon. Got the Maui Jim sunglasses offer in the mail yesterday. Took the car in today for maintenance check and asked the guy who sold us the car to fill out the paperwork. He hadn't even seen the offer yet, although he had heard of it. No space pen, but I can live with that.

I didn't think anything of the new Lincoln MKZ in picture form. Then I saw one at a Ford dealer. It wasn't for sale. But everyone was looking at it.
In pictures, its underrated. In person, its great.

Lincoln sold 6,825 vehicles in March . . . That's less than half of Acura's sales, and less than 1/3 of Lexus!

Are any of the current Lincoln vehicles build exclusively from the ground up or was the LS the last one? I really despise GM for taking that approach with Buick/Olds/Pontiac/Cadillac and felt the same about the previous Lincolns. At least Nissan and Toyota keep the overlap minimal.

Uh, Caddy has been making pretty unique vehicles for a good period of time now. Hardly anyone is using dedicated platforms... Nissan puts the 370z/G37/M series/FX and EX SUV's on the same platform, toyota has everything from a camry to the highlander to the ES series on the same platform, and actually the Lincoln LS was on the same platform as the Tbird and the Jag S type, even the new XF type is an evolution of that platform.

Why in the world they couldn't go pick the car up from the dealer?? That's just lazy and bizarre....but I guess typical

I saw a new MKZ on the road today, good golly is it ugly.

They need to seriously rethink their brand design for Lincoln because it is repulsive. The single long brake light and gaudy grill aren't working.

Oy...

Yah. Gen 3 TL was amazing, but the gen 4 was horrendous. Gen 5 should be out in fall most likely. Hopefully they'll turn it around. Not feeling the ILX or RLX either. Too bad as Acura really offers some pretty good value.
