Almost always was an intel guy..
my last love was the tualatin celery that i had on my bx at 1.4gig..

today.. just went out and picked up an asus a7n8x and an 1800+ cuz i've heard all of the hype about the overclocking..

well.. 20 mins later booted up.. went into the bios and went for 10x200...bumped up voltage to 1.6. booted up like a charm... next 11x200.. 1.625v .. running nice and smooth...
then.. went for the gusto 11.5x200 at 1.65v... and bamm... running nicely..

next im going to try some benchmarking for 12 - 24 hrs for stability...
if not.. i'll bump it down to 11x200.. i'm happy either way..

stepping on the chip:

DLT3C
JIUHB 0321WPMW

i got the combo for $200CDN which i consider a great budget upgrade...

QUESTION:

Right now i have a volcano 10+ copper heatsink on this badboy..
any better suggestions??? i know volcanos are not the best and AMD chips do run hot.

The most versatile high-performance heatsink/fan out there right now would probably be this one, which works on AthlonXP, Pentium4 and Athlon 64. You can find it in the Pentium4 rankings at overclockers.com's heatsink rankings near the top. Anyway, the versatility would be nice if you switch platforms sometime.

For just SocketA, a Thermalright SK-7 with a YS Tech adjustable-RPM 80mm fan would be a good buy. The fan does up to ~50cfm and is infinitely adjustable if that's a little too noisy. (slk-800 is its big brother, another good performer)

I'm definately gonna look into and reccomend a barton 2500+ to my peeps needing an upgrade.

I'm with you bud, just ugraded to the same chip but ABIT mobo (see sig) and the beauty does 11*200 straight out of the box. My fan is a feeble 30CFM so i'm going to go for a YS-TECH adjustable fan soon and get it up to 2.4Ghz. :D:beer:

nice overclock :beer::D

for a heatsink, get an SLK-800, or 900 (Bolt on or Clip for either are good)

well.............
it survived about 12 hrs at 11.5x200 1.675v.

gonna get a new HSF today after work and see if i can knock the temps down..
what should the temp be for an AMD chip such as this???
i'm getting in the mid 50's...
that's much hotter than intel chips.. should i be worried?

after awhile, even the P4 oc's are boring. I kinda wanna switch back to AMD now, but my P4 2.4 at 3.2 GHZ is pretty much smokin through everything right now.

Mid 50s is fine on an Athlon. Anything over 60 is kinda high, over 65 is panic zone.
