Loved part 1, but is Neverwinter Nights 2 still worth getting?

I know the game is kinda old now, but I have always had an eye for getting Neverwinter Nights 2, but I wonder is it worth it now to get it? At first I was considering on getting it, then I read some negative feedback on it, but asking people in AT might be more worth my while in ending up getting the game.

Not really...I got bored with it after about 3 hours...felt too much like an expansion to Neverwinter Nights.

NWN2 is party based, unlike NWN1. i thought it was significantly better, in the order of NWN2 >>> HOTU >>>>>>>>>>>> NWN1 OC (never played SOTU despite the fact that i own it)

if you can get it for cheap, go for it. i've run through a couple times and i think it's good for at least 20+ hours the first run through

So its almost like a full fledged 3D version of Baldur's Gate with the whole party system rather than the single character style like part 1, minus the grand story that the Baldur's saga had??

I actually liked the story quite a bit. The expansion's story isn't quite as good a PS:T, but it was a bit deeper than most of the other infinity engine games.

NWN2 is worth the purchase, especially since you can pick up the NWN2+MotB Gold Edition for relatively cheap. It doesn't have the top notch story that BG2 or PST had, but its still entertaining to play through, and I really enjoyed aspects of it.

However, even with the most recent patches, the game is till poorly optimized and demands a lot of computing power to run effectively. Most of the benchmarks you'll see are flat out wrong though. My older 2900XT would perform almost twice as fast in NWN2 at the same settings as some review sites were getting with 8800GTXs. Maybe the game was just friendlier to ATI hardware, I don't know.

Storms of Zehir is due out later this fall, as is Ossian Studios' much delayed adventure pack Mysteries of Westgate.

I might be the opposite in that I thought NWN1 felt lifeless and foreign, even with lots of user created mods. NWN2 caught more of my interest.

It ran very smoothly for me at 1024x768 and acceptably at 1600x1200 using an nvidia 7900GTX, which is slower than an 8800GT. The CPU was just an X2 4200+ which also is slow by today's standards.

I enjoyed the NWN2 campaign despite some brain-dead AI -- you may want to install an AI mod or just turn off party AI and micromanage them. Otherwise your casters will summon elder elementals to deal with 1 unarmed kobold, and they will drink every potion in their inventory.

I'm finding the MoTB expansion just OK, I had no problem with setting it aside unfinished to play Mass Effect.

so basing my thought from what I have read so far from the posts, NWN2 has some odd things going on with it, other than the revealing negative aspects?

It's no Fallout 1-2, PS:T or even Baldur's Gate II, but nothing else is either.

If you enjoyed KOTOR I-II and NWN 1 there's a good chance you'll have fun with NWN 2. I finished the main campaign with the quirky stock AI and will probably play it again once I finish a few other things including the MoTB expansion.

If you enjoyed NWN1, I don't really see how you could not enjoy NWN2. It's very similar in feel, but with updated graphics, revised rules, and new classes.

I thoroughly enjoyed NWN2, more so than the original. I thought the story was interesting, although it began to fall apart towards the end.

However, I hear the expansion is even better than the OC. Also, I'm sure there is a modding community, though I have yet to tap into it.

If you enjoyed NWN1 then you'll probably enjoy NWN2 as well. Better graphics, more content. I can't comment on the plot but it's OKAY fantasy fare. There's going to be a second expansion released later this year which is supposed to be a revamped version of the game engine and it'll tkae you to another continent.

The story line is a joke in NWN2, as is the "choices" in the game, they are hardly choices and you can really only play a lawful good player throughout. There are literally like 3 quests that are even semi non-lawful good.

That being said, graphics are a step up from the previous ones, and the combat and such is about the same, which is good because it was good to start with.

I was thinking about getting the expac for it, but I don't know...
