sooo, i worked IT for 2 years, while obtaining my 2 years associate degree. Applied for a few jobs here and there (not expecting anyone to bite), mostly ones that req. Bachelors, and this one in particular got me in for an interview.

They must have loved me, I went back for a second one. Then a third and got an offer of exactly what I was hoping to get.

If I didn't get the job, id be going to the U of M for my ITI, but I wanted to get a job instead, as experience in this industry outweighs a BAS, well that is my look on it now (my uppers dont have Bachelors, barely any certs).

I actually like this place though, we play frisbee golf on lunch breaks, we have great funding towards our IT department. Our helpdesk actually fields calls and only gives us things out of their control, they are very innovative with apps/Os's etc (they look forward to new hardware/ideas that make things easier).

Granted, this is the honeymoon period (second week here), so it will eventually end, but for now its good stuff.

cliffs:

1. new job
2. love it

I like my job, although I do wish they'd put me back into more programming. We're in a lull as we prepare to tackle a massive contract, so I'm doing a lot of infrastructure/IT work. It's interesting, and I'm learning, but I can't wait to get back into design and code.

Good to hear but shouldn't you get that bachelor's thinking of the future? That asso. is not gonna last you too long, especially if you aim on making the big bucks. (I'm talking about thinking AHEAD for your total career life).

I mean where will you be in 5 years? 10 years? You're gonna need that degree.

Congrats. I as well have been at my job for 6 months, and am happy with it. Sys admin, help desk/field issues are handled by 2 other employees, i get to focus on maintenance and optimization of the servers/domain--what i actually want to do.

glad to hear! I plan to move 'up' towards a position like that soon. These guys seem to be expanding, so that position may be available soon.
