I'll play two or so missions and I'll get bored. I mean the thought of taking to the skies, shooting and avoiding missiles, and dropping bombs seem to be something that would be exhilarating and fun but just doesn't seem that way.

I've tried everything from ww2 ones to some of the current ones (Lock On, Falcon 4). Not much into ww2 planes but the games are a little more fun.

those are worse than real flight sims. those games were too easy, just lock on a missile and fire. kaboom!

Well, it ain't jet combat, but if you're having adrenaline problems I recommend Aces High 2. It's a free download pay-to-play WW2 sim. Steep learning curve, fantastic realistic flight model, and a great community. I've played for over 7 years, and there are still things to learn about ACM.

Anyway... a good furball is pulse-poundingly intense.

have you only played falcon 4?

how about falcon 4 allied force or one of the player made updates?

They're huge updates to the original both graphically and gameplay wise. You can generate a mission where as soon as you take off you're in the shit with dozens of migs and AAA/SAMs going everywhere.

Plus the online play with F4AF is great.

The campaign system in F4AF is fun too, you can get tasked missions by the computer, or generate them yourself, both are pretty effective and just flying the missions will probably be fun.

Oh, and there's always dogfight mode, I had a lot of fun with that, taking the F-16 up against a couple Migs at a time.

Of course F4 is one of the more hardcore sims, so if your problems were with complexity, your experience probably wont change.

The only flight sim I ever got into was one long ago. I forget the name, but they had a mode where you could free-fly as any plane (and multiple non-plane objects), and shoot rockets. I spent hours flying around as a broken billboard shooting rockets everywhere. I think it also had a mode where you could fly as a giant bird and drop egg bombs.

I'm still hooked on IL2 Sturmovik, but I can see that you'd get bored with sims if you're not into flying in general. Real flying isn't like a video game, just like real combat is nothing like an FPS. A single firefight that stretches 4 hours and involves mostly ducking and running around behind things probably wouldn't appeal to a gamer. But it's scary as shit to be in.

But if you dig the realism, IL2 is pretty cool - very realistic flight model, smart AI, pretty graphics
