Lois Vuitton is suing an artist for depicting a "likeness" of one of their handbags on here shirts being sold to raise money for charity.

Though many here detest Anonymous, I think a larger portion of the community here can see merit in this particular campaign of theirs.

Personally, I think this mess stabs at the underpinnings of what's tearing our society apart. The legal system has become one more tool for the rich and powerful to strike down "the little guy" as it suits them. People just don't have the resources to take a stand against a large corporation in a civil suit regardless of merit.

Vuitton might stop her, but they're going to do a lot more damage to themselves in the process.

Shouldn't she be covered fair use or something? It's not as if she's counterfeiting their designs.

Edit -- Didn't finish the article.

Martin Garbus, a copyright and intellectual property lawyer based in New York, said the handbag heavyweight should back off.

"It's an ill-founded, badly thought out lawsuit. I can see no reason why they'd go after this woman," he said. "There's fair use in copyright -- fair use means you can use something that's copyrighted to make a statement. It's like a parody of a Louis Vuitton bag, and parody is protected under copyright law."
