loud toilet

No Lifer
What would cause a toilet to be abnormally loud during/after a flush ? The reserve tank compartment looks to have a pipe and it's suddenly a LOT noisier when filling back up. Possible causes ? It flushes fine otherwise.

I 'mod' my toilets by adding a pipe from where the water is injected in the cistern to the bottom, that way it doesn't tinkle after the flush and is virtually silent.

Maybe you had a pipe like this but it fell off...

You are the first person I have ever heard of who hacked a toilet.

It's the way of the future.

I'm am overly curious to know more details on how this is done. Could we get some :camera:'s perhaps?

OK....

lav mod

A: water inlet pipe from mains
B: Valve attached to float
C: float
Actual flushing mech not included as not needed.

I add pipe D which means that instead of the water falling from valve B into the water below (loud tinkling noise for like, 5 mins after the toilet is flushed) it flows down the pipe and enters virtually silently (all you hear is the water going through pipe A).

Maybe I should patent this!

I'm going to name my band "Loud Toilet" in honor of this thread, which is odd since this thread kinda sucks.

any ideas?

(i'm serious)

Sometimes that's due to the pressure coming through the intake water pipe and valve. You can adjust how open the valve is with the knob. Play around with different "levels of open" and you'll find a spot that is quieter.

I liked the title too.

Yeah, but "loud toilet" is hilarious all by itself.

There is a large black plastic valve with a small hose coming out of it that fills your tank. Turn that valve.

Umm, I already have a pipe D and I thought that's where the noise was coming from... but obviously it's only a pipe, not a pump. As water goes from B to D, A is pumping that in, correct ? It's only making a loud noise as that water is flowing... as soon as that stops, the noise is done. So is A a pump of some sort ?

I'm desperate ... I don't see the valve you're talking about...

That round thing with the pipe coming out of it controls the flow of water to your tank, it needs to be adjusted slightly to stop the harmonics.

no, A is your water inlet and it's pressurised water, the same as your taps (fossets). there's no pump in there (toilets don't need electrcity!) as the pressure is sufficient to feed the lav.

A lot of noise can come from the valve not opening enough so the water is squeezing through too small a gap which acts kind of like a whislte hence the noise. I guess you have to adjust the screw connecting the float to the valve here.

man this is a really nerdy thread...
