well it's a 10K RPM drive, I wouldn't expect it to be quiet, is it being unusually loud or has it just always been loud?

it has always been loud considering that I have had the machine only for a few weeks now..Must be the 10K rpm eh?

"quiten"?

I mean, come on; you seem to have misspelled "quieten", which isn't even a word; you'd be looking to "quiet" it, not "quieten" it. :p

Grammar lesson aside, you might try an elastic mount for it (or at least rubber grommets instead of screwing it directly to the case). It would cut down on vibration, at least, although it won't do much for seek noise. From what I hear, though, Raptor drives are just significantly louder than regular 7200RPM drives (the newer 74GB models are supposed to be somewhat better). I know SCSI 10KRPM drives are generally pretty loud, and the 15KRPMs are awful...

Try Matthias's elastic or rubber grommet idea, I have two Raptors in my Antec Sonata mounted using rubber grommets and I have to put my ear about six inches away from the case to hear the slight buzz of the drives' bearings.
