Loud motherboard fan

The northbridge fan on my motherboard is very loud, its like a very loud screeching noise, seems like the fan is hitting something. Would something happen to the motherboard if i would take out the northbridge fan and just leave the heatsink on?

Comp

BIOSTAR m7vkd, 1.10 T-Bird Ghz, 512SDRAM, Maxtor 40gb 7200rpm, Visiontek Geforce2 64MB, PioneerDVD rom, PlexWriter 12/10/32A, SB Live! 5.1, 300w Sparkle PSU, Samsung SyncMaster S5S1. 1 case fan (intake)

Lots of threads on this subject- northbridge chipset fans. Removing the fan will likely have no effect whatsoever, provided there's some kind of halfway decent sink under it. Try it, your ears will like it.

If you're cncerned about long term effects, get a zalman passive heatsink for it-

kool thanks. I just dont want to damage the motherboard in any way since i have no cash now ( damn college ). But im gonna try it, the heatsink looks decent.

i've had a zalman pasive heatsink on mine for like a year and a half and it's great. i'll never put an active one on there again. i don't OC so it doesn't get too hot.
