Loud Maxtor 500GB drive. Is there a utilty to quiet it?

Hi all,

There use to be a small utility made available from Maxtor to reduce the 'acoustic" noise of some of their drives. You could run the app and you could chose quiet or performance mode.

I bought a brand new 500GB Maxtor Maxline Pro SATA2 drive and it's freaking loud on access... way louder than my 500GB WD which is silent and actually faster.. sigh. Too bad they are practically giving away the Maxtors. Anyhow anyone know where I can get that utility and would it work with these newer drives? For the life of me I can't seem to find it anymore.

I know this isn't a direct answer but hitachi makes a program that will also work on WD hard drives. Might be worth it just to see if it will on a maxtor.
