Loud heatsink. Any recommendations for a new one?

My heatsink has started a slow whine at some points, to the point where I need to turn my comp off at night. I was thinking of heading over to CC B&M and grabbing something, but I really don't know much about HS/Fs. You guys have any recommendations for something not too pricey, but decently quiet? I'm just running a 1.6ghz duron not overclocked, and may get a barton in a month or so. I'd like soemthing that would work for my eventual upgrade as well. Thanks!

Not sure what counts as "not too pricey", but I'm thinking you're going to get some reccomendations involving Thermalright + Panaflo L1A, or Zalman. A Thermalright SK7 plus a Panaflo L1A shouldnt be particularily expensive. Thermatake "Silent Boost" is supposed to be decent, and is probably cheaper, but I' ve heard a lot of people say its isnt all that quiet.

Zalman 7000al/cu for quietness. It's overkill for duron but if a new Barton is on the way...

i may as well be the smart-arse to say it this time:
it isnt the heatsink which is making the noise [being an inert piece of metal and all] but the fan on top of it....;)

sorry mate, just couldnt resist not being on the end of something like that for a change!:D
you could also use the spire falconrockII for quietness [it really is!] and tolerates mild overclocks too...very cheap

To be more proper... 7000A, the 7000 doesn't work with Socket-A. But I agree with what McArra said.

I agree on the 7000A, it is a great cooler and with the included FanMate can be set to run slower (normal 26db, can be set down to ~20Db). With that cpu it should cool enough even at the slowest speed.
