Loud Fan

I just purchased a Pentium4 1.7ghz Sony VAIO and its great. I formatted it and installed WindowsXP Professional. Now when i used to boot it up the fan was loud for about 15 seconds and it wasnt a big deal because it was quit after that, but since i formatted the louder fan (over harware and cpu) is ALWAYS running as opposed to just when u turn the computer on and it is VERY loud. Does anybody know how i can get this fan to run normally like it used to and shut off when it isnt needed? I would appreciate youe help.

you bought a sony, hahaha

ok i know that was mean, i'd call support (if they have it) and ask them about the fan.....

Neal, perhaps when you reformatted your laptop, you "lost" some type of s/w that regulates the fan. Just a possibility, hope this helps.

He has a desktop, not a laptop. The Pentium 4 is not yet available in any laptop.

Daovonnaex, even though you are 100% correct 😱 do you think that a desktop might have s/w that regulates a fan, or would that only be applicable to laptops? Thanks for your time.
