Now he does the news at 6pm on CNN.
I caught him for the first time tonite.
He is pretty wild.
He sounds like a Fox newscaster only tilted towards the left.
Personally I don't like the idea of ANY news station or anchor adopting Fox news's one sided, propaganda style.
So what's your opinion on Lou?

I like Lou Dobbs, especially his Exporting America segment. He's not a fan of anti-American Worker Big Business.

Lou Dobbs is an idiot. If you've seen one of his shows, you've seen them all. All he ever talks about are outsourcing and illegal immigration. Yawn.

Yes, it is his favorite subject, and sometimes he should give it a rest.

CNN seems to be giving him more time rather than less.

Two of the biggest issues facing middle class America. Of course, if you're wannabe rich, you don't care about middle class America, often to your own detriment.

What would you consider a big issue? The "war against Christmas" or "OH NOES!!! TEH GHEYS!! THEY CONVERT YOU!" or is it "Oh my god, I can't believe they make Bill Gates pay taxes!"??

I like Lou Dobbs, and I don't accept your analogy comparing him to a Faux whore. He makes his points very strongly, but he's got his documentation straight, and his logic is usually spot on.

How about come up with something new to report on instead of playing the same video from a month ago again today.

Lou was cool. Now he is a ignoramus who ignores the facts. He was on 20/20 recently and they presented him with the facts that outsourcing creates more jobs and is beneficial, he had no answer. He keeps repeating the same old BS, about how outsourcing is bad. He fails to have a long and broad vision. He has a short and narrow vision. Is he even supportive of the free market? I'm not so sure anymore.

Also, the people who criticize outsourcing are only thinking short and narrow.

Not really. He is factually incorrect and when presented with facts, he has no answer.

Outsourcing doesn't happen because of free markets. You think Chinese labor is cheap because of free markets ? You think lax enviromental control in Mexico is a free market ?

What many people think are free markets are really just exploitation, and passing on the hidden costs to later generations, which distorts the true cost of things. There is a lot of money to be made in the short term from these distortions, which is why it happens, but it isn't truly more efficient.

I didn't connect free markets with outsourcing, although you can try to make that connection. Companies should be able to choose where and when to ship labor to other places to save costs. Those costs may not be realized yet, but when you think long term, the savings could benefit America.

The Chinese probably don't have as many laws and regulations concerning the worker as we do. Also, the unions may not have as much power as they do here. Do they have the minimum wage? I'm not sure.

Good. Since few in the media seem to want to talk about our nation's dirty little secret, we need people like him to discuss it as much as possible when it is appropriate.

Where are all of these wonderful high-value-added knowledge-based middle class and upper middle class jobs? Why aren't we seeing this in the statistics? How do you explain what Paul Craig Roberts cited in the op-ed I linked to above?

Also, how do you deal with the logic behind the economic of global labor wage arbitrage? That is, if the amount of available and competent labor increases dramatically relative to the demand for labor (worldwide wealth, supply of capital) then why won't the price point (wages) decrease? Shouldn't the supply curve shift outward, intersecting the demand curve at a lower price point?

The problem with all of these bogus studies is that they don't make any logical sense. I have yet to hear anyone refute the simple economic logic that underlies global labor wage arbitrage.

Why will these wonderful high-value-added knowledge-based college-education-requiring jobs be performed in the U.S. when competent and willing people can be hired in other countries for much lower wages to produce the same product or service?

Just where did 20/20 obtain these alleged "facts"? From the Bush Administration? Harris Miller and the ITAA?

I didn't see the broadcast, so I can't really comment on it specifically. But without having had the time needed to research the alleged facts and to determine whether or not they were bogus or taken out of context, it probably would have been difficult for him to say, "Your alleged facts are false." He should have said that he suspected they were false or that they were based on statistics that were taken completely out of context and then explained why they contradicted basic principles of economics given the force of global labor wage arbitrage.

I suspect that he probably questioned the veracity of the facts and was dumbfounded that anyone believed what they were pedalling.

I agree. It is not free market economics.

Rather, it's exporting the economic benefits of our having been relatively capitalist and importing the poverty created by decades of socialism, communism, runaway population growth, and religious mysticism abroad. It's really similar to forcing the economic effects (poverty) of socialism and communism onto Ameicans by proxy...and they call it free market capitalism.

Real capitalists would say that we shouldn't trade with China since China doesn't uphold the concept of individual rights. Fifty years from now if we're learning Chinese and living under a red flag with yellow stars on it, people will say that they were right.

John Stossel pulled them straight out of his ass...much like the other spittle he files as news.
