Lots of VPU recovers with my 9700

I had five VPU recover errors while playing BF2 today, and I've probably had ten others this week. I added on heatsinks and an additional fan a while back, so I don't think it's heat. I don't have any weird settings or overclocks. I'm running the latest ATI drivers.

Is my card dying? 🙁

My 9700 Pro died 2 days ago 🙁 no more 3D games for me (2D still works so far...). At first I thought it might be the 5.7 Cat. drivers, going back to 5.6 didn't help.

But I get VPU recovers when I try to play Counter Strike or Railroad Tycoon 3. Luckily nothing popped up for Hearts of Iron 2.

If I turned off AA/AF the card would last longer, but still generate a VPU recover within 10 minutes.

Have you checked to see if the fan is spinning on the card?

What happens when VPU recover is disabled?

Do a backup image... restore or setup original OS... test.
