Lots of static through speakers during CPU activity

I have an Audigy2 sound card in the following system:

AMD XP2100+
Epox 8RDA+ mobo
512MB DDR
40GB Seagate HD
GF4 Ti4600

A few days ago, I noticed a static or "crackling" sound coming through my speakers. It seems to only occur during CPU or hard drive activity, especially when loading or changing web pages in IE. The sound comes through all five channels of my speakers. There was no hardware or driver change prior to this beginning, so I'm completely at a loss. Also, several searches have turned up nothing except for a problem with Audigy cards and VIA chipsets. I would appreciate anyone's help.

Did you try installing the drivers again?? There's a new Audigy2 driver out there. You might want to give that a try.

Interresting ! You seem to have the same kind of problem I just had a few days ago.
Here is the link : link.

For solution try the following BEFORE:
- install latest drivers.
- update windows via windows update.
- install all your required up-to-date motherboard drivers.
If it is still not fixed try:
- flashing your bios with latest non-beta version available. (Be carefull, this step is most often critical unless u have dual bios motherboard).

I too have noticed excessive noise through my Creatve card (SBL) when I do things... like roll my scroll wheel. Someone told me that there are bios options that affect power (isolation/regulation?) and can help get white noise under control?

Strangeness....

Thanks for the several responses. I have already tried the following:

The sound card has been moved to two other PCI slots.
I have the most updated non-beta BIOS flashed to my mobo.
I have the most updated sound drivers.
All the motherboard drivers are the most recent.
Windows Update is completely up to date.

EH, you too ? I've had this issue with SB live value cards. Some have suggested it's PCI bus hogging and sharing of IRQs but I've yet to solve it by swapping cards. I'm not sure what you mean by excessive static, but I get faint static and a ticking-noise (in both my rigs) when I scroll, transfer large files. It seems especially related to HD activity on my computer. I'm wondering if my power draw is too great, but I dunno....

Yeah, it sucks.... wish I had a solution.

Make sure PCI Delay Transaction is Enabled in the BIOS to make the PCI bus version 2.1 compliant! Creative card's are very picky about this.
