Lots of problems

Ok I have two main problems that recently started about a week and a half ago. I am running windows XP pro and everything was working great with my computer until my friend asked me to put his hd into my comp so he could copy some stuff. I said ok and let him do it, I took the hd out and thats when my problems started. First my computer wouldn't restart and I finally fixed that figuring out that it was some mup.sys hang. But when I figured that out I had already reformatted and etc trying to fix the problem to begin with. But anyways to fix the mup.sys problem I had to enable APIC mode in my bios. Once I reformatted I noticed two things happening with my computer. 1.)My sound card will work for awhile then it will just cut out not emitting any sound then everyone once in awhile it will crackle and make horrible noises. 2.)My internet connection will cut off, time varies with both of these and I have noticed it happens quicker with more load on the computer. The internet problem is curious because my computer seems to lag up after that, takes a cple minutes to restart and if I right click on the task bar takes a minute to bring up the menu, and when I restart it always asks me to end my connections tray application because it is not responding. Yes I have all the updates to all my cards and windows. Any help is appreciated thanks.

1st problem: I have no idea. I would suggest you check the drivers and your BIOS to verify everything is configured properly.
2) I think this is unrelated to your first issue. Do you have DSL? It may be related to the way you reconfigured XP when you reloaded it. Check DSLReports.com for a FAQ on random freezing. If you don't have DSL, then I refer back to my initial answer to the 1st problem: I have no idea. :) good luck!

That would be because you are the only one using that PC. I still would do some research at DSL Reports to see if they can help you identify the problem with the freezing. It sounds like a network configuration issue.
