Lots of problems

Computer A = Windows 7 Ultimate, Asus sabertooth 990fx, Phenom II 965 Black Edition
Computer B = Windows XP Media Center, Pentium 4 HT, 1GB RAM (POS family computer)
Router = Netgear G-wifi that has worked for years. Called NETGEAR

I bought a PCI Wifi card for Computer A, but that crapped out on me after a week of ehh connection. I then bought a Netgear N300 USB2.0 adapter, installed the utility, and that won't connect to internet through my router (other wireless devices have no problem). Sometimes it will say "IDENTIFYING...NETGEAR" for a few minutes, achieve a painfully slow internet connection, then disconnect after a few minutes. The utility tells me I have a solid LAN connection though. Ideas?

Now the LAN problem. I just want to transfer files from computer B to computer A. When I am on wireless I can't find it, so I run a cat5 to Computer A (B is already wired to the router) and still nothing. I try a direct ethernet connection pc-to-pc and still can't find it. How can I get these connected?

I don't know much about networking but I'm good with the actual pc, so I can follow directions no problem.

Ive seen many USB network adapters be crap. I would first see if your router has the latest firmware on it. Then check for the latest driver for the USB adapter.

For transferring files, you will need to create a network share on either 1 or both depending on if you are transferring files from one to the other or from/to both.

How are you connecting the two computers together? If it is directly with a Cat5E (no switch/router between you) than you need to be using a crossover cable.

Also I am thinking you need to have both computers in the same Workgroup/Homegroup and you need sharing turned on on the folders you are sharing between both computers.
