I'm guessing he rma'd 2 7950gt's, and got one GTX. That seems plausible, but still a good deal for DasFox :)

He's not a very reliable source of info IMO. He doesn't really work for EVGA, they're just mods in the forums. He kept insisting on "facts" that I knew weren't true due to actual phone conversations with Joe Darwin (EVGA's tech. marketing director) and Jacob Freeman (lead EVGA tech.). This was during the 7900GT fiasco of 2006. EVGA absolutely DOES upgrade/change models/throw in freebies if you have an especially difficult RMA process. He wouldn't know this unless it happened to him. Any mention of specifics in their forum by the person who was upgraded, and you get a nice phone call from an actual EVGA employee asking you nicely to remove the posts. And yes, I did receive an upgrade. :)

Make sure and let us know what numbers you get with that Opty. I also have an Opty @ 2.8GHZ and am wondering how it will pair up.

Opteron 2.8GHz (both single/dual-cores) works fantastically with 8800 GTX/GTS, on my DFI LanParty board. While frame rates may be slightly lower than Core 2 rigs at the setting I play (16x12 or 19x12), it felt smoother. I know it makes no sense but maybe the bottleneck was somewhere else on my Intel system (which was E6600 and P5W-DH before I sold my GTX).

my roomate didn't even have a difficult experience with his RMA

and his 6800 AGP was upgraded to a 6800gt agp for no reason. So the upgrades do happen. A lot of companies do it.

That's nice. I guess I'm sticking with EVGA then. Maybe I'll be lucky and get some great upgrade like this in the future.

I love my GTX. Elder Scrolls IV plays like it's nothing for my hardware. I did run F.E.A.R. for a bit, but some mod I made (driver or such) is causing it to crash before it can start, but it ran beautifully when it did. IL-2 is a peach and all this happens at the ultra high quality settings on a WS 1680x1050.

It's not an EVGA, it's a BFG, but it's still a GTX running at 600Mhz.

Need to add an addendum: I've got an Antec P180 case, MSI P6N SLI Platinum Mobo, BFG 8800GTX GPU. The card is freaking long! I was forced to put the HDs in the lower drive cage because the BFG bumped with the HD trays.

Once you take the depreciation hit into account, it's probably stupid to sell it to buy the slower card. How much are you going to profit, like $50??
