I personally think this is one of the worst series of movies ever made. Why are there so many geeks/nerds that think this movie is the greatest thing since sliced bread? I fail to see what the attraction is.

So, I fail to see why the red sox are worth watching, or football, but you seem to like it. You call us nerds, I call you a brain dead jock. See the stupidity in name calling because of one's interests?

I personally think baseball is one of the worst sports ever invented. Why are there so many couch potatoes that think this sport is the greatest thing since sliced bread? I fail to see what the attraction is.

I liked it. I just don't like it enough to defend its honor like many do on this board.

Well, note that a lot of the Oscars were for the technical side. And for the technical side, it excelled. It didn't get best actor or anything like that and I agree it wouldn't deserve it. Best picture is debatable but I would agree it's a good choice, and best director? Definitely.

Anyone who doubts what an achievement the films were really needs to go check out the extras on the extended edition dvds. They went through a ton of work to get everything done so well.

Also, adapting the book to film as well as they did would have been a nightmarish task.

Anyone else want to jump on the bandwagon of "I'm too hip and cool to like a popular film. I am a beautiful and unique butterfly"????

Still lots of room!

What's so great about sliced bread? I have a fvcking bread knife.

Ah well, I'm a big fan of Tolkien so I'll actually address your question even though I know you are trolling. The Lord of the Rings films are based on one of the most celebrated series of books in fantasy literature and dare I say the English language. It's a wonderful story told well and I urge everyone who expresses any interest in the films to read them if they haven't already. The story has become part of our culture and dismissing it as "geeky" smacks more of blind rebellion than intelligent criticism. I hope you can appreciate the fact that rejecting something simply because so many people embrace it is an ignorant and juvenile reaction.

Yes, there are some big words there so I'll translate it for you. LotR = good. You = dumb.

I personally think that making posts to purposely rile up people on the internet is childish. Why are there so many geeks/nerds that think this is such a fun activity? I fail to see what the attraction is.

Why do people infer that only "nerds and geeks" love it... The series didn't gross over a couple billion dollars from nerds and geeks.

Having read the triology (and everything else written by tolkien) many times I got the sense the film was made by people that truly appreciated and grew up with his work. It's great to finally see a well done film on the stories after many previous failed attempts. The cinemotography was just spectacular, made me want to visit New Zeland, and as a film student I appreciate the monumental and complex logistics involved with tackling and adapting 3 books at the same time all away from Hollywood.

Also I believe the film is so popular because the books were HUGE in the 60s and 70s and many flower children (damn hippies :p) are all grown up and watching movies. Hell I bet Jackson was a hippie, it would explain the lack of hygiene and the way he dresses.

That is true, I should have clarified it deserved some of the technical awards, but not the BMP. I'd even wallow about Best Director.
