LOTR: TTT question -- Anyone else reminded of USMC commercials at beginning?

Maybe it's been hashed out before, but I just saw it the other day since it takes some time for movies to make their way across the Pacific. I was watching the opening scene with Gandalf and the Baalrog, and I couldn't help but think of the Marine commercials with the guy fighting the same creature.

Was it just me?

That brings up a question - are marines actually trained to use their cutlass, or is it just for show?

Marines are trained on using a bayonet but no other sharp objects. Might hurt themselves.



Just a brief note: I antagonize Marines, but they are awesome. I enjoy having the opportunity to serve and work with them. Can't help it here -- something like 25% of the Corps is on this island!
