It's awesome. While $15 for the trilogy is pretty good, nothing comes close to the extended edition - we aren't talking a couple minutes of extra side shots, these are large long portions of film added in that tie into the plot directly in each film.

TTT Extended was pretty good iirc, but FOTR...I can really see why they cut it. Some cool stuff, but the extra bits destroy the tempo. I still haven't seen ROTK extended... :brokenheart:

Don't want to thread crap, but I'd be surprised if FYE followed through on this one. It seems a fair number of people have been getting these type of deals canceled b/c they are "out of stock", followed by a price hike.

I posted this link in the other thread about FYE DVD box sets.

Reseller Ratings

Similar stories are being reported in other forums. YMMV.

Extended ROTK is the best of the three. I can't wait until these are available on HD-DVD. I just hope they add the Costas Botes documentaries to the HD versions.

ROTK Extended was even better than TTT extended, though I agree with you that FOTR extended was just too jarring in places.

Well I got the extended versions when they came out for about $15 each. Well worth every penny. My wife and I have watched each of them at least twice, but have yet to get through the amazing amount of extras on the DVDs. I thought it was fascinating listening to PJ and the writers talk about the decisions they had to make during production. What an amazing project and an amazing accomplishment.

Got the theatricals when they came out, got the extended versions when they came out and gave the theatricals to my parents. Now I'm mostly just waiting for HD extended versions...
