Just picked up the anthology version of this, which includes BME I, BME II, and the Witch King expansion.

Unfortunately, it doesn't run at all on my PC. I'm running a Q6600 with 8Gig RAM and a 8800GT on 64-bit Vista. Actually all three programs won't run.

They install fine, I go to run them, and it hangs on the first "splash" screen. I've patched to the latest versions of all three programs. I'm running it as an administrator, and running with "XP SP2" compatibility checked. This is the first game I have found that doesn't run on my PC.

I emailed the support at EA (what a joke), and after telling them what my problem was, and what I tried, they asked for my dx driver setup.

Their response?
Currently this game is not designed to work with the Windows 64-bit operating system. You can try updating the drivers for your system and you should ensure that you are not running any background programs that could cause a conflict to give you the best chance of running this game. If you are still experiencing problems then it may be that the game will not function under this environment. I'm sorry.

Has anyone got this to run with 64it Vista?

They won't run in Vista and I've even had problems with core 2 duo, not to mention quad core. EA gots your money now they won't help by releasing a patch, or a work around.
Happened with C&C Generals and Zero Hour as well.

I know BFME I works fine on Vista 32-bit for me. I think the first time it did take a while for the splash screen to go away and the game to start, but eventually it did.

Same thing actually happened with me w/ BFME II under XP when I first got it. Game hung at the splash screen, thought it didn't work. But it eventually worked when I just left it there.

bfme2 works fine in vista x64. you just have to go create a txt file with some default values in it otherwise it will just hang at the splash screen and then crash at first run. the answer is in the bfme2 forums on ea's site. im at work and cant get there to give you the direct link but its in there. its a huge long thread but the answer is in the first or second post of the thread.

 :D

Wow, thanks. It works now. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that EA's own forums had the fix, when their tech support said it wouldn't run. What a bunch of idiots.

Feh, chalk another game up to problems with Vista. It's seriously sickening to have to fight the OS with every new game. I've had to do extensive troubleshooting on STALKER, Orange Box, Planescape:Torment, Hellgate: London and Lord of the Rings Online in the past month or so. And the wall you always seem to run up against? "Has problems with Vista. Working on solution." And to some problems out there, there are simply no resolutions. You're just stuck with a coaster.

Add to this that getting an error log out of most of these games is like pulling teeth. I mean HL2 when it crashes, just says "HL2 has failed to start properly." Well thanks for narrowing it down douche-bags. Hell, even OpenGL games go fucknuts in Vista on occasion. So do older direct3D games. It's fuckin ridiculous.

I am stil having problems, I just can't find the damn My Battle for Middle-Earth files folder. The installation doesn't make this folder for me. What am I doing wrong?

I tried running it on Vista Home PRemium 64-bit, but that gave me the splash-screen error and didn't gave me that damn My Battle for Middle-Earth files folder. So I though whatever and tried it on Xp (dualboot) but that doesn't friggin work either. Still stuck at the splash screen and cant find the damn folder. I believe the folder is only made when you can actually start the game for the first time, but this isn't the case. Please help :(

Look in c:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle Earth II files

Then follow the instructions in the EA forum post.

Ok man, finally found it. But it's still empty. What maps do you have in the folder?

I have it like this now but it still won't start :/ I have patch 1.06 and my system should easily run it.

The Maps folder is empty, so don't worry about that.

I think you have a double "ini" on your options folder. If the file was named "options.ini", you wouldn't see the ".ini" in the file listing. (At least all the ini files on my PC do this)

Try editing the name of the file, and remove the ".ini" to see if that works. You should still have the file icon be the "paper with cog" that you currently have.

Hello All, I would like to play Battle for Middle earth II on my computer which run windows vista home premium 64-bit, but it does not run it.

I have followed all the tips suggested in the EA website, and everything mention in this forum including running the program as an administrator, modifying the compatibility to Windows XP service pack 2, change security permissions and adding the map folder and .ini file in
Look in c:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle Earth II files

The problem I am getting know is the the folder c:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle Earth II files does not install when I install the game and I look for it using the search option and the computer does not find it, the game I am running is a CD-original copy, any ideas about how to have this game running?

Thank you

Ya, and the BFME2 is down to EA. EA's games barely work for the OS they were designed for, never mind anything in the future.

Yes it works, but regrettably it is not working on my computer since the folder c:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle Earth II files does not install when I install the game, and I cannot find it using the search option, I know it is possible to have this game working on vista, however I need help to run it on my computer.

Thanks
