Can anyone point me in the right direction.. I'm looking to replace my CUSL2 w/ PIII-933 to something faster and new..

Which way should I go..

P4 with 845
P4 with 850
Athlon XP

There are too many options nowadays! What platform should I go.. and what board?

How much you want for it????????(im serious man)

XP is a good choice for the moment, long term seems that Intel has the advantage. People overclocking 1.5 - 2.2 (socket 478)ghz cpus 500 MORE MHZ.
AMD will be better by March with the new Thourobred .13 micron core, and VIA will have a 366A chipset out, and SiS also. But AMD is a good choice specially with the SOYO DRAGOn PLUS!!!
I'd stay with Intel since AMD will change their line up this time next year, while Intel will stay the course since the "northwood" has plenty of headroom past 3 ghz.

Umm, actually Intel is the least future-proof solution as they'll soon begin using 533Mhz bus P4s and thus they need 533Mhz rd-ram (if you want the best memory-performance) and a motherboard that supports 133Mhz fsb and none of the current mobos do that (I don't know about the ddr-ones though).

AMD will continue using the 133Mhz bus for a while, the current mobos should be compatible with ThoroughBreed, and sa far as I remember it won't be released in March, at leat not in mass.
Via333 (I think that's what it'll be called since 166Mhz ddr=333) will only be able to run the ram at 166Mhz, the cpu will still use a 133Mhz fsb.

Man I just need the Motherboard and CPU... the rest I guess you can keep... around 200 bucks man.... (that only if it supports the Tualiton Pentium3)
But Engrimn is right, Pentium 4 will be 133MHZ bus so even better choice to go with Intel, plus i did get heat issues with some AMD i tested, but that might be a minor case comapred to those who have no problems.

Umm, KGB, yeah the P4s with 133Mhz should perform better but you won't be able to use 'em in the current mobos! So going with the P4 now wouldn't be very future-proof as you mobo would be useless with the new cpu's that come out in a few months.

The heat issues were probably due to bad hsf's or bad hsf installation, if you use a hsf that's certified by AMD for the speed of the cpu you use you'll have no problems.

some guys tell me to go with an Abit TH7-II RAID with a P4 2.2Ghz and PC800 RDRAM.. any reason why not?

not really... hahhaha

I'm just looking for power to last a while..

Another setup I'm looking at is...

Asus A7V266-E
Athlon XP 2000+
PC2100 DDR

How's that vs. a

Abit TH7-II RAID
P4 2.2 or 2.0A
PC800 RDRAM

Torn and

The P4 2.2 would be the most powerfull, especially considering that you should be able to oc it to 2.5+Ghz, probably 2.7Ghz! But it would be the most costly by far, and you won't be able to reuse the board or rd-ram with a future upgrade because of the things I mentioned in my other posts.

The Athlon XP solution would be more future-proof (and quite a bit cheaper) as Athlon will continue to use a 133Mhz fsb. I know there has been rumors that AMD will got to a 166 fsb sometime this year, which would give a much increased performance, but that's only RUMORS! AMD has been saying for the last 1½ year that all future Athlons (no matter what core) will be 133Mhz fsb. There is a recent thread in "Cpu/processors and Overclocking" about this, you can find it if you need more info.
