lost vista boot option

I dual boot xp and vista. xp is my primary OS. both OSes are on the same drive separate partitions. Vista is on the 3rd partiton.

I had to do a repair install of XP recently and after that, my option to boot into Vista is gone.

I tried to add it to my boot.ini file but it didn't work. I selected the option to do a repair of vista and my pc rebooted but i still have option to boot into it.

how do i remedy this?

I think you need to use the bootsect.exe in command prompt in XP from the C:\Boot\ folder where the bootsect.exe is, assuming it's on the C: drive. Or you might have to copy the bootsect.exe from the Vista DVD.

run
bootsect.exe /nt60 c:
to restore the Vista bootloader.

run
bootsect.exe /nt52 c:
to restore the XP bootloader.

bootsect.exe /help shows all options .....

i ran the repair again and that fixed it but then my profile and some other things were corrupt once i finally got logged in so i just reinstalled it.

Before you run into this or a similar problem again, I suggest you install a free utility called Vista Boot-Pro ... it will make your life a lot easier.

You had to do a repair install of XP then your Vista profile was corrupt ?
Are these things related ?

What happens is the XP installation process trashs the BCD which Vista needs to boot ... the same thing will happen if you try to create a dual-boot system from scratch & install Vista first.
