Lost sync with Radeon AIW

Sorcerer

Senior member
I have a Radeon AIW card in one of my systems, that loses sync with my monitor everytime I enter a game.

System specs:
PIII 450 @ 450
Asus P2B-L
256M PC100
SB Live value
Samsung 900p monitor
Win98se

Here is what happens.
I'll start a game, & the screen will go black, & a second or so later, I'll get the message that the signal is out of range for the monitor. (trying to get to 160hz)
(I run most things at 1024x768 @ 100Hz)

I've got the latest drivers from ATI's site,I have the correct monitor selected.
I had this problem when I first installed this card, & just can't remember what I did to resolve it. I've since reloaded the system.

Any ideas?

Does your monitor support 1024x768 @ 100Hz? The Radeon supports 1024x768 @ 200hz. If you turn your refresh to 85hz, do get the same thing?

Yeah, my monitor supports that refresh rate. I run my desktop with those settings.
The problem is, that games seem to change the mode of the video card to some other setting, that has a refresh rate of 160Hz, which is not supported by my monitor.

This happens with the following tested games:
Serious Sam
EverQuest
Asheron's Call
Starcraft

Verify that the correct .inf files are installed for your monitor. In device manager is the Samsung properly identified?

Someone else had this problem recently. He fixed it by setting the refresh rate to a specified Hz instead of having "Optimal" selected.
