lost shortcut icons

Has anyone else ever had Windows XP Pro lose the connection between some applications (office, photoshop) and their icons so that it displays the default command prompt style icon in the start menu?

what causes this?

is there a fix besides manually restoring the connection of each shortcut and icon?

Lost as in the icons are gone, or that they no longer point to the program?

If you delete registry entrys it can do that sometimes, I have seen instances where using spybot can do that sometimes.

The shortcut still points to the program, it just doesn't display the icon in the start menu or taks bar menu. It is more of a nuisance than anything, but I am trying to decide whether to look into this as a possible indicator of more serious problems.

Download TweakUI for XP, and choose the Repair option for the icons.
