Lost power yesterday and now I have a HD showing Reallocated Sectors

Checked the day before and all was well. Checked after the power came back on and my 750gig Samsung HD is showing Reallocated sectors. Is this a coincidence or can a power failure cause this? I rarely access this drive so I don't think it was being written to at the time. Head crash??

One thing for sure, its a sign that you need a UPS! 😀

Losing power can often coincide with a nasty surge. About 18 months ago, a plane hit a power line near my office. That caused all kinds of computer problems here (since our IT staff equips our computers with $0.99 walmart special power strips), and I don't think many of them were due to the loss of power...

yes and capacitor. A raid controller will signal the drive to enter idle mode on a shutdown command. they sell capacitors to go in front of the sata plug. Might buy you a little more time. but if you have a ups and it tells the system to shutdown it will tell the drive to enter sleep/idle mode before shutting it down.

I would assume intel RST would do the same.
