Lost/possibly stolen package..

So fed ex dropped off my sound card yesterday and just left it at the door.. "no signature required" apparently. Seemed odd that they did that and just last week they dropped off another package at my apartment manager's office leaving me the "missed you card" on my door. Of course, when I got home (just a mere 45mins or so after they said they delivered it lol), there was no box waiting at my door. ZZF says its going to take 4-6 weeks to handle the claim with fedex... I'm not keen on waiting a at least a month to get my money back and I'm guessing the card's rebate will be out the door by then. Any advice on how to handle this? I'm thinking I'll wait a week and see what happens then refuse the card charge.

TIA

Sounds like a lazy/busy driver since it's the week before xmas. If ZZF did not ship with signature required then it is their fault, if they did ship signature required and FEDEX just left the box then it is FEDEX's fault. Either way ZZF is responsible for getting you what you ordered or a refund if the package cannot be found since you purchased from them. Dealing with the claim is their problem, you are the customer.

I commend any postal service but I feel UPS lags behind USPS and Fed-Ex.

I get many packages of computer parts, blowup dolls, condoms and misc office supplies, etc.
In one instance I was expecting a PC case to arrive via UPS. Being off the next 3 days, I kept checking the front door every hour or so and listening for a doorbell or a knock at the door......... It rained all day "heavily" and I never heard anything or saw a package.

The next day, I thought I'd go out and pick up some brew and some munchies, hit the garage door opener and see the package right in front of the Garage door!
The box was soaked but luckily it was only a pc case 😉

Totally correct. Usually this isn't a problem where I live with fedex and its usually the easier/more secure way than getting stuff sent to work. Thanks for the comment Doze.

One of my purchases of ZZF recently was a couple of days late and the tracking number said the package was at the fedex office. I was home both days when it might have been delivered and no package.

The next day right before I called, my fedex delivery lady brought me the package and said she had been off for the last two days. While she did not specifically state so, I got the impression that substitute carriers do not deliver packages. I could only shake my head (what do they deliver if not packages?)
