lost password recovery

i received a plea of help from a friend who received a donated machine whose o/s is password protected. its win98, unknown if its first or second edition (does that matter ?). she reaches the password prompt and can proceed no further. any help ?

should be able to just hit escape at the password prompt in 98..and it will let you in.

Yeah, press cancel or escape out. 98 has no security to speak of on its own so you should be fine. Windows 2000 would be another story all together.
