Lost partition and / or MBR?

OK, here is my problem. My hard drive every once in a while would give me a ?Non-system boot disk? error. It was connected to the mobo with a SATA adapter. I would power off my machine and it would reboot fine. Until Monday that is! On Monday it would not come back up no matter what I tried. I wiggled the power connectors and the SATA adapter and it finally did come back up, but with the ?NTLDR missing? error. I was desperate so I used the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands from the Recovery console. Now it says ?There has been a disk read error, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot?. I have tried to get Windows to repair itself from the CD but it only asks if I want to install into the unknown partition, not REPAIR an existing install. I have tried booting off another drive with the broken one as slave using GetDataBackNTFS but it doesn?t see the drive in Windows. The drive is recognized in BIOS however. I have tried Active@ Partition Recovery software (booting from a floppy) and it sees the files and folders as if they were there, but doesn?t ask to recover any MBR or partitions. I have tried to Ghost the partitions but Ghost gives me a ?Read error 29004? when I try to Ghost the drive to another one.

It was a 120GB WD JB drive (I have had three fail within 18 months ? STAY FAR AWAY!) It was full of programs and stuff, but I really only want to recover my emails and addresses. The rest I can re-install or re-download.

Does anybody have any ideas? TIA.
