AppleCare will not cover for any lost or stole iPhone like any other cell phone except it will cover if it is broke or damage????

The main thing if lost or stolen is to call in and get it inactivated. Otherwise you may be surprised with a humongous phone bill. For replacement compensation, you need to go the insurance route.

That doesn't sound like replacement, more intune with using your upgrade for a newer phone? I didn't think ATT/Apple did replacements on Smartphones. I suppose you can always buy unlocked iphones. Which version did you have?

Why would apple care cover it? That is not what it is for, you need insurance. Before buying the cell insurance check and see if your homeowners/rental insurance would cover it.

Well I thought every cell phone like tmobile that I had before cover for my sidekick3 when it was stolen now I'm with AT&T there is no insurance for my 3GS I'm bit nervous carry it outside where people would snatch and run like greyhound dog

You're surprised? If they covered lost phones then you could just SAY it was stolen, get another one, and have 2. Sell one and make some money. So... it doesn't make sense to cover loss like that outside of insurance.

I think it's completely sh!tty that Apple Care does not cover lost or stolen phones and ATT won't provide insurance for it. However, with how hot of a product the iPhones are right now, it's understandable from a business standpoint.

There are unscrupulous people who will say their phone got lost or stolen and pay whatever the deductible is and get a new phone, thereby hoping to profit from it. Look at the price of an iPhone 3GS on eBay. If I could pay $200 deductible to replace a "lost" iPhone I could go ahead and sell one of them for a $500-600 profit easily on eBay. Do this once a year and you're paying practically zero for the iPhone.

I'm not saying most going to do it but there are enough who will that no one offers insurance at the moment for an iPhone. I did read a while back that Best Buys was contemplating an insurance plan for the iPhones but it was like $20 a month which is ridiculously high. Basically the ones who really aren't trying to buck the system (as usual) are the ones getting hurt.

I can't think of any reason why lost or stolen should be the responsibility of the OEM. That is what insurance is for. If I had an iPhone, it would be covered by my personal articles floater policy just like all my electronic equipment, wife's jewelry, etc. These are also known as Inland Marine policies and are commonly available.
