Lost my xp cd

I actually have 2 copies and both cases are empty. The cases both still have their cd key printed on them.

So my question is, what version of xp will an xp home upgrade verson cd key work on? My copy doesn't have any service packs. It's the first xp home upgrade that was available.

I tried a friend's non-upgrade that has sp2 on it and my key wont take.
