A friend of mine gifted me Win 8 pro (retail boxed version) during the release time of Windows 8. I installed the OS then and went on to avail the FREE Windows Media Center offer and upgraded. So far all good until yesterday when I decided that I should re format my computer. Before formatting I download Belarc advisor to see my keys and also another program from Nirsoft to make a note of my key. Did this coz I was lazy to look for my product key card. After reinstalling I get prompted that the key isn't a valid Windows 8 key but a Windows Media Center key. The key that I was trying the same one showing in Belarc and Nirsoft's product key app. I thought when I got the WMC upgrade my existing key also got upgraded to a new one and which is why it showed in these apps but it isn't working and I cant find the original product key card. I dont have an invoice nor can my friend get it I think because he himself got it from someone in Microsoft. Is this a lost case?
