Lost my phone, got angry at T-mobile

My phone was either lost or stolen two days ago and today I went to T-mobile to get a replacement. I had the Samsung E105 and really liked it. It cost me around $75 when I renued my plan with T-mobile a couple months ago. So I tell the guy I want the same phone and they try to charge me $210 for it. As much as I like that phone and haven't had many problems with T-mobile, that is way more than I will pay for a phone.

So where can I pick up a Samsung E105 for a reasonable price? And can I bring a phone I buy somewhere else into T-moble and the'll connect it to my account for free?

ebay,
you'll need to purchase a new sim card. 10-20 bucks
new E105 is like 125-150

The only connection that gets made is with the Sim card.
I think you can just get that programmed at a t-mobile store.

True. The pricing works about the same with every carrier. I paid $320 for my last Sprint handset. Don't regret it one bit.

Exactly! You got the discount when you signed up. You don't get new customer discounts until you've had it for a year. If they kept giving you a great deal, they wouldn't make money. Whether you like it or not, you'll get the same thing at every other cell phone company...especially if you are early into your contract.

I'm mad because they want to charge me $210 for a phone I bought from them two months ago for $85. Also they asked if I had insurance. I would have most definitely gotten insurance, considering how easily phones can me lost or stolen, if they had ever offered it to me.

Ditto.

You got the phone for 'cheap' as it was an upgrade deal and such. When you lose it/ have it stolen you have to pay the 'full' price that isn't subisdised. Also you can pay for insurance on the phone to replace it in the event that you have it stolen. Me I don't bother with it but my bro does and it has saved his ass before.

Koing

They can offer you it for cheap at first $85 because of the money they make from the contract can off-balance the money they'll be losing from selling the phone for so cheap. If they offered it for $85 again they'll lose a lot of money.

I'm sure they'll offer you another great deal if you renewed your contract once more, for an extra 1-year.

i pay about $2.99/mo so that if my phone is ever lost, stolen, smashed, broken, or anything, i get a new one for around $20 (nokia 3650 by the way)

Haha. Sounds like you're just an idiot. One of those people the CSR's talk about on their breaks.

Or we talk about in our customer service or tech support stories.

CSR: Yea, the other day, this guy wanted us to sell him a phone for a loss even though he didn't have insurance and just got a discount 2 months ago.

Others: Hahhahaaah

You do know they have a $4/month option or something to handle for situations like this, right?

I didn't. I would opt for a plan like that if I had. I'll see if I can get a deal by extending my contract by a year.

Yup, never hurts to try. One of my friends gets a new phone every 6 months by extending his contract (Nextel).

That is the deal you get for extending the contract....$210...if you don't extend, it will be $255

Just call to have the insurance added.
you have to wait like 1 or 2 months, but if you can wait that long, you can pay the 50 dollar deductible.
I have a verizon phone that's failing, but it's not worth it to get the insurance, especially when the contract is almost over.

If you're contract is almost over, why not just get a 30-40 dollar phone as a temporary solution then resign a new contract with a brand new phone which you can receive most likely free.

Unfortunetly you're not understanding the concept. The ONLY reason they have good deals on phones is if your signing up for a contract...thats where their money is. So, if you're not signing another contract, they are not going to cut you a deal & they shouldn't quite frankly.

He can only add insurance within 7 days of the beginning of his contract. T-Mobile changed it because people were abusing the system too much unfortunately

it's not a sure thing that they'll offer you a deal if you sign for an extra year. i tried this a couple months ago with verizon, they wouldnt let me. i was looking at paying full retail for a phone. i ended up visiting 4-5 different verizonwireless stores, eventually, one of the sales reps gave me a deal. not as good as when i initially signed up, but still saved me a hundred bucks.

for not knowing why you got your phone for cheap in the first place.

LOL. It's funny 'cause it's true.

In other words: Cell phones don't cost $80. They cost $200-400. They sell you a phone at a BIG LOSS to attract you to their service, and then lock you into a contract (or charge the ETF), in order to recoup the loss, and then some. That's the current business model.

I'm reminded here of the the words of the poet Ice-T: Sounds crazy? Well it isn't. The ends justify the means--that's the system.
