Lost my FDD - fixed

I recently added some neon green lighted fans and rounded cables and seem to have lost my FDD somehow.
The little green light is on all the time.
Even switched to a known good FDD, with the same results.
FDD shows up in Explorer but won't open any disks.
Tried reinstalling drivers, no change.
I've swapped old and new cable with no change.

Did I do something to the MB?

I tried setting the bios to stop if it didn't detect the FDD(or somesuch) and it stopped at that part of the bootup which probably means its not seeing the FDD.
Right?

Anybody got any clues?

Yep... even though the slot doesn't make it look like its reversed... we honestly should get rid of those things... but i don't like flashing without em... sigh... :(

Hmmm.... reversed how, exactly?
IIRC, the connectors on the cable and MB have tabs and I just lined them up.
I'll recheck.

Would it make any difference that the old cable was double device and the new one single device?
Might I need to reset something in the bios or the MB?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Just the other day I had to cut the tab off a FDD cable on one end in order to plug it in correctly. I had exactly the same symptoms.

Reversed it was.
You guys were absoltuely correct.
The FDD plug is tabbed top and bottom.
So naturally being the kind of guy I am, I put the tab at the top... the most logical place, right?
Wrong.
Ah well, live and learn, I say.

Thanks guys.
Life is now good. :D
