Lost my driver's license

Got a temp license from the DMV. Says my DOB and all, but obviously there's no photo. What's more troublesome is that it has my middle name too, which I don't use in anything else. My name isn't all too common and stuff, so would I be able to get stuff showing A) my school ID which has my name, photo and sig coupled with my temp license which has my DOB and my signature on it?

I'm thinking it might work? I don't know.

But what about clubbing? Ok, that one I don't think will fly. Although my friends told me that when I lost my ID I should just try for the 18+ place they were going to on the basis that I'm a college student (but what the hell, who goes 18+ clubbing once they're 21 anyways right?)

Edit: And no I don't have my passport on me. My parents are one of those stereotypical Asian ones that are protective and conservative, and so yes they have my passport, and it's not like I would drive 1 hr home just to retrieve it anyways when I know that my new license will be mailed to me soon, and no tto mention what my parents would say if I asked for a passport randomly.

If you have a passport, that often works, but other than that you're probably SOL. My ex lost her license a few months ago, it only took about 10 days to get a new one.

Other than that, you can hope that they wont card you. If that doesnt work, you have to wait for your new license.

The temp ID plus a picture ID of somekind should be valid...however you're going to find a lot of variation when you put that theory to practice.

Yeah. I just looked at my shcool ID. The photo's totally blurred out which reminds me when I tried to get into football games they would always ask for my DL. Ugh... My only other source of photo IDs is my:

A) Debit card, which has a clear photo of me
B) AMEX Costco card which has a picture of me too for Costco membership...

Couple that with a DMV temp ID?

Or maybe I'll just call my friend and drive her to Safeway and have her get a few things for me.

They usually also issue picture ID's at the DMV for people who want an ID card but don't drive.

yeah, forgot about those. The DMV does them for like 5-10 bucks. I'm not sure what effect Homeland Security has had, but you might need a picture id to get an id.

I'm quite sure that we're missing some vital piece of the puzzle here. If you're eligible for a driver's license, you'll get one instead of a "temporary".

some states will not give you a DL when you go to the DMV, they mail it to you

i renewed my DL last week , here in Missouri, the lady made the new DL and handed it to me 3 minutes later

i am assuming the OP lives in a state where they won't just make it and hand it to you and they only mail them out

From the California (OP's profile indicates he lives in CA) DMV:

You will be issued an interim license valid for 60 days and/or a receipt for your ID card until you receive your new photo license and/or photo ID card in the mail.

When my CA drivers' license was suspended for 30 days a few years back (101 in a 65mph zone), I had the DMV issue a California State ID, which I could use to buy alcohol, etc.

I live in Kansas, and our pictures are printed on the receipt they give us while we wait for the "real" one to come in the mail.

But please...tell me we're ahead of Cali on this one. :laugh:

It is if you ask a securities lawyer I'm taking a whole 3 credit course called issuance.
