lost iphone 1G, possible in ANY WAY to track the phone down and locate where it is?

is there ANY WAY at all to track down where an iPhone 1G is if it is lost?

this is assuming that the sim card is still inside.
What if the sim card is taken out, then is there any way to track it?

I think if the SIM card and the battery are still in the phone, it should be able to be tracked. Getting someone to track it for you is another story, however.

The IMEI number is unique, so it could be tracked down that way. But you'd need AT&T to do that for you, and they have no interest in doing such things. Plus they would have a hard time telling you where it is beyond a city block, since there's no GPS data to work with.

apple or ATT should really offer insurance plans for the iphones
even at a premium, a lot of people would buy it
