Because this show is not real... the producers specifically addressed this issue but I forgot what they said... stuff like hurleys size and cloths constantly being clean will never change.

You explain the real world physics of the black fog first and I'll tell you about Hurley's weight. ;)

A friend of a friend is a writer on "Lost," and apparently he and the producers are really pissed at the actor who plays Hurley. If anything he appears to be heavier this season, and it's hard to reconcile that with living on a desert island.

They're just making excuses for him. If coconuts are so fattening, why do the people on Survivor always end up looking like skeletons at the end of 40 days, even where coconuts are plentiful?

It's a TV show... get over it. How does Jack Bauer never have to go to the restroom, sleep, or eat during his 24 hour jaunts? The correct answer is: who cares.

At one point, Hurley did mention having to tighten his belt a few notches. So canonically, he probably is losing weight even though the actor looks the same.

Ha, thats funny! I was just asking this to my SO last weekend. I've never seen Lost until last weekend when we watched most of this season and she caught me up with everyones back stories (she's watched it from the start)

There's a lot of silly things like that though, like how does the bunker place have power or running water?

Still interesting though, and I'm still wondering WTF is up with that black smoke and why didn't the LOTR's guy and the Echo dude even mention it to anyone when they got back to camp?

Except that coconuts are not fattening. Most of the fat in coconuts is Medium Chain Fatty acids. Your body breaks those down into energy almost immediately and they are very rarely stored as fat in the body.

I can't believe you guys like Lost. This is exactly what I am talking about. They have an explanation for everything except it comes 5 weeks later. I can imagine the writers just sitting around.

Hey what do you want to happen this week?
How about a polar bear.
On the island? Dude, this is the tropics.
So what? It's not like we have any responsibilities as writers. Our fans will just wait a few weeks for us to pull something out of our butts. They'll even label it "suspense"

The fat ass has got to go. Your friend needs to whack the fatty in the script.

i kinda remember towards the end of season 1, charlie asked hurley why he hasn't lost any weight after being stranded on the island for over a month. he just shrugged his shoulders.
