lost folders on a HD

one of my HDs went bad recently. It had several folders within a folder that contain pictures that i want to retrieve. I was able to get a new primary sata drive with win xp pro on it and have this bad one hooked up as an additional sata device. I can access this drive and move from folder to folder although it does so very slowly. I can copy most files off the drive although some will not. My biggest prb is there were a few folders that i can no longer find such as my pictures. For some reason they do not appear in windows. Is there any other reliable software way to find this folders that contain pictures?

yes a program called "Get Data Back" made by Runtimesoft - just plug it into google, its gonna cost you about 80$ for it but it is hands down the best data recovery program out there, just make sure you get the correct version NTFS or FAT32

if the drive is spinning it will find everything that is there

just make sure you DO NOT install it on the drive you want to recover data from

it takes it about 45 min to scan a 120 GB drive and then copying stuff off goes as fast as a normal HDD-HDD transfer

i have been running get data back since 8pm last night

it is still looking mostly b/c of error issues on the HD

it will be interesting to see what if anything else it finds

thanks for the suggestion especially since u can dl the prg and use it to see what it would recover
to actually recover u have to pay the 80 bucks but in essence u get a chance to look before u buy

Get Data Back is definitely the best data recovery software available and is worth $80 even if you only use it once and I'm guessing you'll find another use for it someday. I used it just yesterday to recover documents from a laptop after it had been re-imaged and I was able to get everything I needed.
