Lost DVD Rom and CD writer icons please help?

Hi this is my first post. i am having trouble with wiundows 2000 networked machine. I attached an external device with its own DVD burner and software. However this mad my DVD Rom and Cd writer icons dissapear and i could access the external device.
So I returned my PC to its original config and uninstalled teh software for the external device. However it still does nt show me my 2 cd icons in My computer and thet are there in device manager although one of them has a yellow esclaimation mark by it. But neither of them is there in computer management. I beleive that is I should nt have to load drivers for them in win 200 but I am not sure how to procced. I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

try this:
Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Now delete the keys:
LowerFilters and UpperFilters.

Now reboot and your optical drives should function again.
