Lost desktop items after running Vista msconfig

I recently helped a friend do a system restore on a Dell running Vista, then as I wanted to speed up the boot time, I went into msconfig, and disabled everything 🙂

Now he's whining because his stupid clock, calendar and his stock tracking "widget" isn't showing on his desktop. I told him to just look at the clock in the room, but he wasn't satisfied with that answer.

Does anyone here know what service those things fall under when I go into startup menu, so I can add them back for him? I mean, I know SOMEONE here does, but will someone please tell me? 🙂

Thank you in advance.

Has he tried right clicking on the desktop, choosing gadgets and reinstalling the clock, etc.?
Thank you...simple answer 🙂

Although I am not familiar with Vista, I had thought of that myself. I will tell him to try that, thank you...again. If I recall, W7 is the same thing as far as desktop gadgets.

And, you can always go back to MSCONFIG and start adding those drivers a few at a time until the good stuff works. You apparently threw the baby out with the bathwater. 🙂

Some Dell's running Vista used google gadgets instead of Windows gadgets. You probably removed the startup for it in msconfig.
