lost credit card...

So i stupidly lost one of my CC's... the slots in my wallet aren't that secure it seems. Anyway, I call to get it cancelled, and say it's lost, not stolen. I was kind of wondering why they cared, but then maybe they just want records, whatever.

But I got my replacement card today. I was expecting a new number, but it's the same one on the old card. Is this standard practice? I mean, what if someone picks up my card w/ intent on using it maliciously? I'd like to hope someone either destroyed it for me, returned it, or something like that.

Yes, I could just ask for a new number, but was curious now on what other ppl experienced

I have "lost" credit cards before but I KNOW for a fact that they are somewhere in the house. In those cases I tell them to send a replacement cc with the same number.

If you have a suspicion that the cc was lost outside of your house/car I would call back and report it as STOLEN.

damn you're fast... it's only 10 on the west coast isn't it. You have "hosting/credit/camera/etc" radar or something...

but yeah, the reason I'm a little worried is I lost it at either: staples/best buy/ikea. great places to lose it. Time to give the automated machine a call.

Something like that 🙂 Every day I get at least 20 AIM/MSN messages from people with AT threads I should look at and reply to.

Automated machine? Which cc company is it? Look on the back of the card there should be a specific phone number to call to report your card lost/stolen. Call that number instead of the regular 800 customer service line.

Ask your cc to expedite your new cc to you, usually they can FedEx overnight it to you. You'll have it by Tuesday morning.

If I ever lost a credit card I'd probably always ask for a replacement number and tell them it got stolen.

I don't have to worry about it and cut up the old one if I ever found it.

It's a providian card. They had a number online... since I didn't have the card to call the number on the back 🙂 It was pretty much fully automated. "enter in card" "what's your 4 digit soc" "what happened, lost/stolen" "thank you, you'll get a new card soon"

i was actually pretty surprised. Got here w/in a few days too. It's no rush since I don't need it.
