Lost Cellphone

I have Verizon w/ phone insurance. It's been 3 days so I'm guessing I'm not gonna get it back unless someone takes it to a verizon store and tries to activate it. I'm broke right now and can only afford about 50 bucks.

I could get insurance, but I'm going to need to file a police report, get the report, file a lost phone complaint, pay 50 bucks, and then wait for them to ship the REFURB phone. This would take approximately 3 weeks.

Or, I could pick up a STARTAC or similar phone, for about $30 on ebay and activate it. Then buy a completely new phone next month and keep the STARTAC as a backup. This would take approximately 4 days.

What would you do if you were in my situation?

get the refurb phone. ebay phone not worth your hard earned $30 if you cant afford over 50

do you have SO/family member already on verizon, might be a good time to think about getting a second line registered for 10 bucks

anyway, file the police report now

I can afford it. I just don't want to blow 200 out of 500 bucks, you know. And I have some changes to my finances occuring and I dont want to bounce any checks.

Yeah since you already paid for the insurance, why not use it?

That being said I can't live without my phone for a day (I use it for work)...

I called verizon and told them i lost my phone, and they deactivated it.

Exactly. It's really hard to live without my cellphone... so 3 weeks is out of hand. I guess I will get the Startac as a temp phone, and go to verizon and do the insurance thing. I was so surprised at the prices of phones without the verizon discount. My phone cost $200 and i thought it was one of the lower end models. I could probably get the insurance phone, sell it on ebay, keep the STARTAC, buy a new 710, sell the STARTAC and online lose like 50 bucks out of the deal.
