I have a problem that I have never seen before. I have lost the secondary IDE channel as my cd rom has stopped responding. It is listed in explorer, but it will not read data from a disc. I swapped it out with another and it does the same thing. I recently downloaded IE6 and it hosed my system to the point of reinstalling windows 98 and removing all my network clients and protocals and reinstalling them. I also had to reinstall all of windows communication devices in setup to get IE6 to work. For some strange reason, windows now installs a tape drive controller in system properties and installs the standard floppy drive controller under that heading. this causes resource conflicts with the standard floppy disc controller under floppy disc controller heading. I have tried removing them both from the system properties and rebooting but they come back just the same.

Sys Specs:
win98
asus a7v266
amd athlon XP 1700+
256 pc2100 DDR @133
wd 80 gig HD 7200
enermax dual fan 320W PSU

Any and all help would be greately appreciated..............

when you "reinstalled windows" did you do an install over top of the current install or did you do a clean install (with fdisk, then format then install)

Yes, just went over the current install so I wouldn't have to reinstall my programs. Also I never have had a tape drive installed before.
