Lost a file in Vista

I have microsoft office 2003 and Vista ultimate. I've backed up all my files. The other day, I was looking for a note file (the ones you create in Outlook). But it's nowhere do be found. Anyone know how I can retrieve it? I don't ever remember trashing it (and that's impossible considering deleted outlook files go into the deleted folder in outlook where they stay until you decide to permanetly delete them). How can I get this file back?
