I was told to register a domain name on April 5th, went to webnames.ca and did a lookup on that word there and noticed the .ca name was available. Webnames.ca was a bit more expensive than other registrars and I went with NetNation and did it through them. I got a confirmation email that I had submitted my order and today, I still hadn't received anything from them. I go to CIRA and did a WHOIS on it and noticed that someone else had registered it on April 6th!

I called NetNation and asked what happened to my order and said that they registration failed as they are closed on weekends and the when they tried to register it, it failed.

CIRA WHOIS on the domain gave me:
Domain generalflooring.ca

Grr, I wonder if this is like NetworkSolutions where Webnames.ca does domain name sampling or do requests go into some sort of visible pool and someone else was able to just scoop it up? Not a big deal I didn't get this name, but I'm quite annoyed. First time I've ever had a domain name "stolen" from me. But SIBERNAME is not affiliated with Webnames, as far as I know...

Well, I wouldn't really say that they stole it from you, but it was definitely a little shady or a freak coincidence.

I don't really care about the domain name, but I'm just wondering how he was able to register it before me. The fact that I did an availability lookup on Webnames.ca, is that information released anywhere?

The other fishy thing is that the admin address is the same as the registrar, SIBERNAME, even though the names are different.
